Privacy Policy

1. Overview

Kaptur is a privacy-first application. We do not sell your data, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not track you across apps or websites. This policy explains the limited data interactions that occur when you use Kaptur.

2. Data We Store on Your Device

Kaptur stores the following data exclusively on your device using Apple's Core Data framework:

  • Your business profiles (name, type, tax ID, and theme preferences)
  • Expense records (amounts, categories, vendors, dates, and receipt images)
  • Project data (names, budgets, contractors, and associated expenses)
  • Estimates and invoices (line items, client information, and PDF exports)
  • App preferences including color scheme, text size, and subscription state

We do not operate our own servers to collect or store this data. All information remains on your device.

No User Accounts

We do not require you to create an account, log in, or provide an email address to use Kaptur.

3. On-Device Processing

Kaptur uses several Apple frameworks that process data entirely on your device. No data from these features is transmitted to external servers.

Features using on-device processing:

  • Speech Recognition — Voice expense entry uses Apple's Speech framework to transcribe your spoken input directly on your device.
  • Vision / OCR — Receipt scanning uses Apple's Vision framework to extract text from photos locally on your device.
  • AI Categorization — Expense categorization uses on-device heuristic and NLP-based parsing. No data is sent to external AI services.
  • Location Services — If enabled, used solely for future geofencing features. Your location is never transmitted to our servers.

Speech recognition may use Apple's servers for transcription if on-device recognition is unavailable. This is handled by Apple's Speech framework and subject to Apple's Privacy Policy →

4. Camera & Photo Library

Kaptur requests access to your camera and photo library solely for receipt scanning and business card background customization. Photos are processed on-device and stored locally within the app's Core Data store. We do not upload your photos to any external server.

5. Microphone

Kaptur requests microphone access solely for the voice expense entry feature. Audio is processed in real-time by Apple's Speech framework and is not recorded or stored. The microphone is only active while you are holding the record button.

6. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

Kaptur offers an optional Kaptur Pro subscription, processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment details. All billing, refunds, and subscription management are handled by Apple. You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time via Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions.

7. Analytics & Advertising

We do not use advertising networks. We do not use third-party analytics services. We do not sell your data. Kaptur does not contain any tracking SDKs, advertising identifiers, or telemetry systems.

8. Your Rights & Data Deletion

Since all your data is stored locally on your device:

  • Access: Open the app to view your data at any time.
  • Export: Use the CSV export feature to download your financial records before deletion.
  • Deletion: Delete the Kaptur app from your iPhone to permanently erase all locally stored data, including business profiles, expenses, projects, and estimates.

9. Children's Privacy

Kaptur is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The “Last Updated” date at the top will always reflect the most recent version.
